The main goal of the event is to discuss a unified approach to determining priority areas of the Sustainable Development Goals, taking into account the characteristics of the country's regions and national strategic documents. The workshop also serves as a platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience on implementing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development at the local level.

The seminar discusses the possibilities of adapting the SDGs to local conditions at the regional level, the main provisions of the developed Methodology for adapting the Sustainable Development Goals to local conditions at the regional level, as well as a list of SDG indicators for the regions.

Methodologies for determining SDG priorities are also studied, and proposals are put forward to determine priority objectives and indicators that correspond to the characteristics of each region.

Work to implement the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level in Turkmenistan began in October 2025. Then, with the participation of representatives of the Mejlis, ministries and industry departments, the khyakimliks of the cities of Ashgabat and Arkadag, as well as the khyakimlik of the Ahal velayat, the scientific community, public organizations, the private sector and young SDG ambassadors, the first training seminar was held.

At this event, the priority objectives of the Sustainable Development Goals were identified, the methodological basis for their adaptation to local conditions at the regional level was presented, as well as a list of indicators for the regions.

Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals at the local level includes setting the local agenda, making decisions accordingly and monitoring progress through indicators adapted to local conditions.

Great importance is attached to the development at the regional and local levels of numerous activities aimed at accelerating the implementation of the SDGs, as well as the active participation of local communities and civil society in this process. This approach is consistent with the principle of “leaving no one behind.”

During the seminar in Turkmenabat, issues of forming a unified approach to regional development opportunities until 2030, identifying priority tasks and next steps to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals are also discussed.

Such training seminars are also planned for October 2–9 in Balkan, Mary and Dashoguz velayats.
